Help with engagement party ideas?

Most engagement parties are thrown by the the grooms parents. If they are helping, you should ask for their input. I know the point is to celebrate the new engagement and for the two families to be able to meet before the wedding, so I would keep it simple and intimate. Why not go for a black and white theme.
