How to dodge a "mate" who could get me work?

An ex work "mate" of mine phones me from time to time to catch up on news (any work going) the truth is he's a two faced self preservationist and a brown nose. He would shaft me over to make sure his job was safe. we were on 3 jobs together over the last 3 years and i was always the first paid off, he made sure off it by undermining me behind my back with the big boss. He phoned me twice today and i ignored his calls. I can't be bothered with him anymore. I do everything up front he needs to know i don't want to work with him again. But the firm we were subbed to he's golden boy (top snitch) I'm top grafter and the most skilled of all the subbies. If i play it wrong it could cost me work on his say so, i won't get a call back to the firm. How do i play it in my favour? he needs to know where i stand but i need the work
